NYC-based photographer, William Yan, made a quick stop to LA a couple weeks ago. He took this little snap of me for his blog.
But more importantly, I introduced him to authentic Mexican food, since there’s none of that in NYC. =)

Gratuitous photo of myself at work.
1) I work at a hip menswear showroom, so this is not your average staff photo.
2) I was really checking emails on my iPhone.
3) Yeah, no matter how I slice it, it’s kinda awks.
So the current blog squad at 722 (HI, ERYNE & STEPH) decided to do a post on me this week about my personal fashion blog roundup. That’s why this was taken. Besides the fact that it was my first day back after calling in sick, it was one of those days when I felt and looked haggard — notice the sunglasses, pathetic top bun, and stubborn flyaway baby hairs sticking out because I refused to fix my hair that morning.
All that aside…HOW AWESOME IS MY HARLEY-QUINN-SLASH-TWO-FACE-HARVEY-DENT shirt? Goes really well with our office space!

Overdue outfit post from PROJECT Tradeshow Day 1. Vintage 50s skirt minus the poodle and without that 50s feminine charm. Instead, I decided to give it a little edge with a graphic tee, light denim jacket, leopard loafers and green accents. Definitely worth repeated wears!

Layerrr Monsterrr.
Haha this is awks. But I love it.
I’m not a New Yorker, so layering on this level during the winter is new to me. But seriously, I’m not used to the cold NY weather! I’m a SOCAL WUSS - spoiled by LA’s sunny, 70-degree winters. To give you an idea of how many layers I’m wearing (and this is without my coat and scarf and gloves) I am wearing Uniqlo heatteach leggings over tights, and a chunky sweater over a sheer shirt over a uniqlo heattech long sleeve shirt. IT WAS CRAY. Once I got inside the trade show venue, I was sweating bullets. Trial and error, I guess.
New York women layer effortlessly, though. Major props and much respect to you all!
On another note, the always AMAZING William Yan shot this on the first day of PROJECT NY, and it was a lot of fun getting to hang with him when he wasn’t busy shooting or blogging! Good times!
On another-nother note, peep my Le Specs shades. Favorite sunglasses of the moment! Did I mention that Le Specs just did a collab with Henry Holland? Definitely worth checking out.

Outfit posts back by popular demand! (Actually, it’s mostly just friends that ask, “Why don’t you do outfit posts anymore?” I’m really not popular at all!) Bear with me now, because I have to take most of these photos with my iPhone, so the quality will be on the low side (the other half is not always around to be my photographer). ENJOY!

Lazy Sunday.
Got up at noon, went to church, ate lunch, took a long ass nap, got up again at 6. Here I am shorty after. To prevent complete and utter lameness, I’m off to dinner and a movie. Hello CG skinny Chris Evans. And for the record, it’s not fair for you to be The Human Torch AND Captain America in the same universe!

Highlights: Summer Shopping (Pt. 2)
More of my favorite summer buys so far. The older I get, the more conscious I am of choosing things that are versatile, timeless, and of good value. Of course, it’s easier said than done, and I still fall victim to impulse buys every now and then.
Riding the wave from my last post, you might ask, how does shopping equate to saving? Sure it’s ironic. But in order for me to save money and still get the cool stuff I like, I have to change some habits, adjust my mindset, and constantly discipline myself. Here are some examples of my thought process:
- Do I really need it, or do I even have something to wear with it? If I have difficulty imagining myself in it or coming up with possible combinations in my head, then the answer is usually no.
- Is it TOO trendy? If a top costs $50 and will most likely be out of style in 3 months, then it’s not worth it.
- Do I have something similar, or does this fill a void? Let’s face it, I don’t need another pair of black heels.
- Can I cut back? Yes, I can do my own nails instead of getting a mani/pedi. If there’s bread left in the pantry, I make a sandwich instead of going to Subway.
- Can I get this online? Chances are that you can. It may take a little time and research to find the best deals, but there are always deals. And so many retailers offer free shipping, free returns, and promo codes for discounts. It’s trial and error, for sure, but if you put the work, you can pay less for the same thing you saw at the mall.
Point is, there’s shopping and shopping smart. It’s not just about being in fashion and getting the latest trends. Fashion comes after style, and I constantly remind myself that styling is key. I don’t need new stuff to constantly keep up. I can wear the same pieces over and over again and make them look different every time. I can revive an old piece and make it look fresh somehow. Jessica Quirk of What I Wore is a shining example of this, and she’s had so much success in the fashion world because of her appealing yet practical style sensibility.
Rant over. Hopefully I get to do some more catching up! It’s been way too long.

Highlights: Summer Shopping (Pt. 1)
The summer is a dangerous time for my wallet. Nevertheless, I managed to prioritize and stay practical. I got the necessities first, e.g. a new phone, laptop, and tote to carry my laptop. Then I got a few pieces that could easily transition into a fall wardrobe. Keeping impulse buys to a minimum, I think I managed my spending well, and I’m still saving money. That’s right, I said it. SAVING. It’s definitely difficult for a fashion-obsessed person to save, but it’s possible!
CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: White Panama hat, BCBGeneration; Khaki lightweight anorak, Banana Republic; Emerald accordion-pleat midi-skirt, American Apparel; Leopard print calf hair ‘Mention’ flat, Jeffrey Campbell via Nordstrom; Red ‘Shatter’ nailpolish, OPI; B&W stripe henley tank, H&M; Hello Kitty X Johnny Cupcakes tote, Johnny Cupcakes; 13” Macbook Pro, Apple; White wireless mouse, Logitech via Best Buy

Blazin’
Cam from The Midwestyle is one fine dresser (feel free to interpret “fine” in whichever way you like). I’m always in awe of the amazing thrift store finds on this blog, and I can’t really accept that his white linen blazer was only $3. THREE. EFFING. DOLLARS!
Sure the boys from The Midwestyle have good taste, good looks, and look impeccable in blazers, but what I love about them is their attention to detail. Case in point, scissor tie clip:

You know what they say, “Appreciate the little things in life.”
What are you smiling about?
Seriously, because it was really cold outside when I took this. I guess I’m smiling because this olive green coat is one of my favorite buys this past winter. In fact, I wore it to a bar last weekend and my cousin drunkenly made sure to remind my boyfriend to not leave my coat at the bar because “it’s expensive.”
Secret: I got it on sale for 30 bucks.
Follow-up Secret: It’s from Forever 21 (part of the Love 21 line).
Not really a secret anymore, but…BOO-YAH Grandma!
